Maintainence

As all my events for the month slowly wind down it's time to start a bit of maintenance. Studio needs order after the trunk show hurricane. Closets and cabinets need purging. Shelving needs assembling. Then I can really feel comfortable sitting down and working on my canvases. I want to jump into Spring nice and fresh so a little zen cleaning is in order.
Recommended restaurant if you're in Oak Cliff- Don Panzos on Clarendon Ave. Argentinian food featuring pizza, tacos and these weird empanadas with charred numbers marked on them.

Bye Bye Birdie

So sad to see them leave the nest! Sniff! This box I've duplicated and haven't been able to keep for long. It kept getting featured in the treasuries and was one of the most often picked up boxes at the trunk show. This is all very interesting information for me for planning my new spring line.
So now the nest is empty except for about 6 boxes and I'll be taking them with me this Saturday to the Lonely Hearts Love In bash for some prospective customers to peep at. My etsy store seems a little barren but I'm sure in due time I'll be back in the shop working. For now I really want to work on the canvas I started a few weeks ago.
Happy Valentines Day!

Ziggy Sawdust

Here are my latest commission orders. They will be leaving my hands this evening and I just made em. I'm really keen on that Bowie box. SIGH!

Love Is In The Air

I bought this little cutie from Tiddlywinks over on Etsy.com. It's a Valentines gift for my man that I couldn't resist already giving him. In return he got me the pink one.
Well of course they couldn't be seperated! Guess we're both a little batty about each other! <3

Lead

I've got a lead on a place that seems interested in taking my boxes on consignment. I'm thrilled but I haven't signed anything yet so I'll keep my pot from boiling over for now. I have an order to finish today and the trunk show generated another so things are steady here in the boxing ring. Looks like rain in the forecast so I better get my daily walk in before the dark clouds pop in the sky.

One In Every Bunch

Whether it's work, bands, social groups or anything that involves a group dynamic theres one in every bunch. Sometimes more than one, but if you're lucky... only one. The EGO. It's something you come to recognize when you deal with it on a daily basis as I do at work, where there are several at play. At any rate it's always interesting to encounter that one in the group where you weren't expecting it.
Today is a day of reflection and rest. The sun is out and a walk is in order to stretch the legs of yesterdays sitting. Oh crap, laundry day is today. So much for rest! Quotes for the day to make myself aware of my own ego and put perspective on others:

“Perhaps middle-age is, or should be, a period of shedding shells; the shell of ambition, the shell of material accumulations and possessions, the shell of the ego”
-Anne Morrow Lindbergh

“If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It's very important to be aware of them every time they come up.”
-Deepak Chopra

“Whenever I climb I am followed by a dog called 'Ego'."
- Friedrich Nietzsche

“The foundation of the Buddha's teachings lies in compassion, and the reason for practicing the teachings is to wipe out the persistence of ego, the number-one enemy of compassion.”
-Tenzin Gyatso, The 14th Dalai Lama

Yee Haw!

(not my cat)

I sleepily scanned the etsy treasury page today after not really checking it out in awhile. Some lovely soul included my Early Bird box! :-) I am so thrilled. My Mom actually snagged the box from me and now I have to make another one. But it's nice to see it still gets plenty of cyber love.
I finally carved out a small place for me to work in my studio. See, what was supposed to be my "studio" evolved into a two person computer room slash laundry room. Egad! How's a girl supposed to work?! So I converted one of my cabinet units into a makeshift table and sorted all my felts and papers into bins. I was happily working in the kitchen until my cat went into heat and drove me to madness with her caterwauling and incessant attention grabbing tactics such as..."suprise sucka I'm gonna jump in the middle of your project! PET ME NOW!" or "let me stick my claws in your leg as you're drawing a straight line!" and the ever unpopular "meow, meeeeeow, rrrreeeeeooooooow, mmmmmeeeeeeeeeaaar, rowr, rowr,MMMMEEEEEOOOOOWWWWWR!" whilst insanely rubbing herself all over my feet. I had to move. And she has to get fixed. Pronto like!
Working on some custom orders and will hopefully be done with that today so I can put all my energy into the Etsy Dallas Trunk Show we're doing next weekend. I would love to have a few more things in stock for it but can't really break my back too much this week as it's already pretty taxing. SIGH! Here's to productivity. CLINK!

Something very strange is going on....

Good things seem to be coming my way. And this is strange and foreign to me. Whenever I see an email in my inbox from the press I cringe a little. I imagine the letter to be something to the effect of "Dear You, why do you keep sending us announcements about your silly events. Please remove us from your mailing list."
Now, I really have no reason to ever receive a letter like that nor have I ever gotten one but it's been my nature to always expect the worst. So I felt a little queasy when Fashion Dallas contacted me about running the promo info for the trunk show along with one of my boxes. And then I was certain I was about to discover I had a rare disease when the Observer contacted me about running my promo and running a photo with it. I think I'm about to get hit by something....abducted by Stephenvillian aliens or something. Something strange is going on and I'm a little n-n-nervous!

E-Love

Hip Hip Hooray! I'm featured in another treasury this week! Good karma is so sweet:

Much to do

If it's not going to snow then I see no point in continuing with "winter" here in Texas. Just bring on the Spring so I can kick my old Trail Trekker group back into gear and we can go exploring.
Yesterday while I was trying to walk a block to my gym I was nearly thrown into the street by the winds ripping through Dallas.I literally could not walk in a straight line and had to stop and steady myself against a light post. While this made me feel like being heavy was not a problem it made for a scary journey to and from the gym.
I have so much to do in and outside of work it's not even funny. I'm trying to partition the day into little organized segments (and my brain too) so I can accomplish everything at a pace and not feel overwhelmed.
Trunk show stuff still needs doing. I need signage which I've already resolved to make myself...in the same fashion as I painted the Velvet Underground banana on the tablecloth for the Factory party. I need to go get supplies this weekend, little bags with some pizazz and generally pack up a box of everything I'm going to need. I think once everything is packed into a neat corner of my apartment I can stop worrying that I'm forgetting something.
An order to fill, a few to replace from the shop, promotions for Lollipop Shoppe, a new dance routine to learn and a whole shipload of stuff pouring in on me at work. Yikes! Meditation never looked so appealing!
OM!

Fighting the Z's

I know I need to go to my table and start working. I got an order I need to fill and have only finished 2 of the 6 boxes I need to do. Between the winds kicking up something sneeze-inducing today and the overwhelming need for sleep...I don't see me getting much done tonight. Maybe early to bed, early to rise?
Besides Twilight Zone is on and that's my fave. Goodnight!

Feature Shop: Spugmeistress

I'm totally smitten with the cute video game related handmades over at Spugmeistress's shop. It's all "old school" and that's the way I roll. I don't know a thing past Playstation 1 but I see my old friends from Metroid, Space Invaders, PacMan and Super Mario Bros. I need some money for video game stuff Ma!

Sort

The weather has turned a bitter cold here and it seems no better time to hibernate in the hive and...um, straighten the studio out finally. Sigh! What a mess. Nothing is organized and I wonder where to begin. I started a new painting I want to work on today but clutter is so distracting. When my little workspace is all tidy I will take a photo of it to remind myself of how things need to be. A nice reminder to pick up all my crap after I work on something.
My etsy shop is stocked to the gills. More stocked than it's ever been. Here is my latest box, I have one more blank box to paint to fulfill my trunk show quota I gave myself.

And then there were 3

About a week ago I wasn't quite sure what a Treasury was or how you made one. I DID know they were supposedly hard to get and were coveted by the little etsy sellers. Somehow I nabbed one, then another and now today...my THIRD Treasury. Wow! The Etsy gods have smiled on me. I've been featuring people who have hearted me, people I hearted and now I'm listing my new little support group of local Etsiers- Etsy Dallas. Pop over for my third Treasury and see how we do it in the South:

End of Week Etsy Offerings

Ah it's almost the weekend and I need to gear my creative self into "less computer" and "more creating". And also some tidying up as my kitchen table workspace is a bit disastrous right now! Valentines are all over the place, my work desk, my studio, my computer area. I can't help but feel the love and crave bon bons!

Beginners Luck?

Maybe it's beginners luck or maybe I have finally found something to do in that dead space called "downtime" at work. Either way, I snagged my second Treasury spot on Etsy this week. Please take a minute to view the lovely things I have collected into the Treasury and if you like something buy it and support one of the hard working independents who made it with love. xo
